RUSTON - North Texas entered the Thomas Assembly Center Thursday night boasting the top scoring defense in Conference USA, surrendering only 57 points per game.

However, after the offensive onslaught that Louisiana Tech brought to the court, the Mean Green didn't leave Ruston with the same distinction.

Whitney Frazier scored 19 points and the Lady Techsters (9-8, 4-2 C-USA) scored a season-high in points in defeating North Texas (2-15, 1-5 C-USA) 92-57 before 1,260 fans Thursday night.

"I thought we did a lot better job handling their pressure on offense," said Tech head coach Tyler Summitt. "North Texas is a very good and scrappy team on defense. [Mike Petersen] has them playing very hard. I thought we did a great job with the traps. It was a lot better than we did against Middle Tennessee. I am very pleased with what we did on offense. On defense our goal was to hold them to 35 percent or less. We did that and I am proud of the team on both ends."

The 92 points were by far the most North Texas surrendered this year, easily surpassing the 75 points that Top 25 Texas A&M scored against the Mean Green back in December. North Texas had only allowed one of its previous 16 opponents to score 70 points or more entering the game.

Tech hit 12-of-23 three-pointers and shot 49 percent for the game, improving to 7-0 all-time against North Texas. The 92 points eclipsed the previous season-high of 90 recorded in a win over UTEP two weeks ago.

"We shoot the ball better at home and that is just something we need to get over on the road," Summitt said. "We have to get better at shooting on the road. I also thought that the threes we took tonight were better. It was better shot selection overall. I think we did a lot better job with the extra pass. Twenty-eight assists on 32 made field goals shows we have a great family atmosphere on offense."

North Texas took an early lead but the Lady Techsters gave a glimpse of the night to come for the Mean Green. The first three field goals LA Tech made were from behind the arc as Tech 22-5 run to take a 22-9 lead with 9:18 to play in the opening half. The lead remained in double figures for the final nine minutes of the half as Brandi Wingate scored nine first half points and the Lady Techsters shot 55 percent (16-29) from the field in the first half.

The second half saw North Texas hit its first three field goals as Tech kept a 47-34 lead. However, the Lady Techsters then used a 20-6 run over the next five minutes to push the advantage out to 67-40 with 12:08 to play in the game. Once again, Summitt received plenty of production from his bench as the LA Tech reserves accounted for 41 points on the night. All 10 Tech players scored at least four points in the game.

"I think every player has something they can get better on," Summitt said. "I think overall, you saw everyone do something good. I like to see the charges, diving on the floor and playing hard. Those are the biggest things. I think it was lacking a little bit on our defensive rebounding. We started to pick it up there for the last eight minutes. I am proud of our team for that toughness mentality."

Following a small run that saw North Texas cut the lead to 69-49 with 8:46 to play, Tech caught fire offensively again, outscoring NT 23-4 over the next six minutes to build its biggest advantage of the game at 92-53.

Chrisstasia Walter barely missed out on only the fourth triple double in Lady Techster history. Walter finished with eight points, a career-high tying 13 assists and nine rebounds.

"She did a great job and she was the one coming off of ball screens," Summitt said. "She was able to find the open person. She was great in transition. It was something that I was talking to my dad about a couple of days ago. We play so fast in our transition offense and we are still playing fast in our half-court offense. I thought we did a good job of playing fast in transition and then slowing down in the half-court."

Kevione Moten recorded her second career double double with 10 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in just 17 minutes.

"If she will just stop fouling, she has two or three silly fouls but besides that I am proud of her," Summitt said. "Same for Brandi Wingate, she has to do a better job of staying out of foul trouble. We had 50 rebounds and they had 35. That does not tell the full story. They had 14 offensive rebounds and we were not pleased with that. We still have to get better, but Kev did a great job obviously."

BreAnna Dawkins led NT with 18 points while Briesha Wynn added 12 points.

Tech returns to action Saturday when it hosts Rice at 6 p.m.
