RUSTON ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" Louisiana Tech picked up win No. 10 on the season on Friday night as they blanked UTEP, 2-0, at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.

After suffering two straight defeats last weekend, LA Tech (10-7, 3-4 C-USA) bounced back with a strong performance in the back by shutting out the Miners who had registered at least one goal in every game this season.

The Lady Techsters also needed to capitalize on scoring opportunities when they presented themselves and they did with a first half goal by Kathryn Sloan and a late insurance goal by Mylene Roy-Ouellet.

"Our backs were against the wall knowing we had to get a result playing against one of the power houses of C-USA soccer," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "The players gave every ounce of effort they had tonight and were willing to take risks which was great to see. Some of the soccer they played was breathtaking. The crowd was also a factor once again."

The Techsters came out controlling most of the possession in the first 10 minutes of action, registering four shots to nil during that span.

In the 15th minute, a foul called on UTEP (9-5-2, 2-2-2 C-USA) awarded LA Tech a free kick in a dangerous area along the right flank.

Senior Brittany Beddow, making her 72nd career start which ties for the most in program history, put the ball into the box. A Miner defender headed the ball back and Sloan was in the right place at the right time to finish the deflection inside the six.

It was the team-leading eighth goal of the season for the junior and No. 26 for her career.

UTEP's first scary scoring chance came seven minutes before halftime when Aleah Davis flicked a clean header from the air just outside the six, but the shot barely went wide of the right post.

The physical opponent pushed forward in the second half to try to get the equalizer, producing four corner kicks in 25 minutes but the undersized backline of LA Tech was able to hold the one-goal advantage.

However, Roy-Ouellet was able to give her team some breathing room in the 78th minute when she had a breakaway down the right wing. The freshman pushed the ball toward the goal line, then put on the brakes and got the ball to her left foot which she buried into the left corner for her fifth goal.

LA Tech held a 15-9 shot advantage for the game. Kylee Seto registered four saves, picking up the 15th shutout of her career.

LA Tech continues C-USA play on Sunday when they host UTSA at 1 p.m.
