For the Bulldogs (2-2, 1-1 Conference USA), it is a chance to extend their current six-game home winning streak, while UL-Lafayette (1-2) enters the game coming off a 35-14 loss at home to Akron.
UL-Lafayette brings in a dominant rushing offense, one that ranks in the top 20 nationally, led by first team All-Sun Belt running back Elijah McGuire. McGuire enters the game ranked 16th nationally among active players with 2,458 career rushing yards.
"Offensively, they are running the football very well," Holtz said. "They have three returning starters up front on the offensive line. They are big and physical and they maul you. I really like Elijah McGuire. I liked him as a freshman. He was the [Sun Belt] Player of the Year last year and a preseason all-conference player this year. He is very deserving of his billing. When he gets the ball under his arm, he is exciting."
The Bulldogs will counter with a rushing defense that ranks 28th nationally and first in C-USA. Led by an experienced defensive front, the Bulldogs have allowed an average of 110 yards per game and a mere 3.3 yards per carry.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Bulldogs will try and continue their dominance, as they enter the contest averaging 522.5 yards a game, which ranks 17th nationally and first in C-USA.
All-Conference USA running back Kenneth Dixon currently sits at eighth nationally with 524 rushing yards through just four games and also ranks first in the country among active rushers with 3,934 career rushing yards entering Saturday's contest.
"It will be exciting to watch," Holtz said of the running backs matchup. "You are watching two of the better running backs in the country. All three of them are when you include (Leonard) Fournette. You are talking about three of the best running backs in the country with what they are doing productivity wise. I think it has all the billings for a great day. I think it will be fun to watch the matchup between these two running backs."
LA Tech has won seven straight over the Ragin' Cajuns with the team's last meeting coming just a year ago in Lafayette. In that game, Kenneth Dixon and the Bulldogs marched up and down the field taking a commanding 48-20 victory back to Ruston.
The Bulldogs have not just executed on the ground either as senior quarterback Jeff Driskel ranks 15th in the nation with 1,171 passing yards on the season.
UL-Lafayette enters the game with a 1-2 overall record with its lone win coming over Northwestern State in week two of the season. Last weekend, the Ragin' Cajuns fell to Akron, 35-14, in Lafayette.
The Ragin' Cajuns have yet to name a quarterback for Saturday's game against the Bulldogs with both Brooks Haack and Jalen Nixon vying for the starting spot.
