LA Tech vs. FAU box
LA Tech season stats
BOCA RATON, Fla. ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" After producing two multi-goal games last weekend, Louisiana Tech was unable to produce the same kind of offense on Friday night with a 2-0 loss at Florida Atlantic at FAU Soccer Stadium.
LA Tech (9-6, 2-3 C-USA) came into the match wanting to be as organized as possible on the back line, but they ended up surrendering a goal in each half by FAU (8-7, 2-3 C-USA).
"We needed a mistake-free game from our back line, but two costly errors cost us two goals and that was too much for us to make up," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "We had our chances, but could not finish which if they had gone in, could have turned the game.
"We knew coming in this was going to be a tough match. Sunday does not get any easier against FIU. We hope to be focused against another talented squad."
To start, the league match was suspended for approximately 30 minutes due to a lightning delay.
For the majority of the first period, the strong defensive organization of the Lady Techsters was frustrating the Lady Owls who could not get off many clean shots.
FAU was able to strike though on their second corner kick of the night which came in the 41st minute. After the ball was deflected from the set piece, a cross was sent back into the box where it was headed in by Erica Burt to give the Owls a 1-0 advantage.
The Techsters had two corner kick opportunities themselves just minutes before halftime, but were unable to produce any shots.
LA Tech started pushing forward more early in the second period. The team produced two more corner kick chances and junior Annabel Prior had two shot attempts, but none found the back of the net.
The home team was able to secure the match in the 69th minute when Kelsey Parry scored off a cross from the right side.
Kylee Seto ended up with six saves.
LA Tech now heads to Miami to take on FIU on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. CT at the FIU Soccer Stadium.
