STARKVILLE, Miss. - Krysta Tutsch hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to lift Louisiana Tech to a 3-2 win over Illinois Saturday in the final game of the February Freezer hosted by Mississippi State in Starkville.
With Tech trailing 2-1 in the sixth inning, Kassie Harris singled and then scored on Tutsch's fourth home run of the season - third of the tournament - to give the Lady Techsters a 3-2 advantage.
The one-run lead held up as Pauline Tufi retired six of the next seven Illinois batters in the sixth and seventh innings as the Lady Techsters completed the tournament with a 3-1 record - the only loss being a 6-4 setback against the host Bulldogs.
Tutsch had all three RBI in the game as her fourth inning single scored Tufi, who had doubled to lead off the frame. The run-scoring single tied the game at 1-1.
Illinois retook a 2-1 lead in the as the Illini recorded a two-out, run-scoring single off of Tufi, who came on in relief of Bianca Duran.
Tufi (1-0) picked up the win in relief, allowing only one hit and one walk in 2.2 innings of action.
Offensively, Tech (6-4) was led by Tutsch (2-3, 1 run, 3 RBI), Anna Cross (1-4, 1 SB), Tufi (1-3, 1 run), Harris (1-3, 1 run) and Duran (1-3).
