Box Score Feb. 17, 2015

Box Score

BATON ROUGE, La. - Louisiana Tech was three outs away from pulling off its biggest win in years but the 15th ranked LSU Tigers scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Lady Techsters 7-5 Tuesday night at Tiger Park.

Tech (6-5) overcame an early 3-0 deficit and scored five straight runs - including two in the top of the seventh - to take a 5-3 lead over the undefeated Tigers (11-0). However, LSU recorded four straight hits in the bottom of the frame, including Sahvannah Jaquish's three-run, walk-off blast deep over the left field fence to end the game.

The Lady Techsters looked shaky early, as a dropped fly ball in right field in the bottom of the first inning allowed LSU to score two unearned runs and grab the lead. Following a solo home run in the bottom of the second by LSU to extend the lead to 3-0, LA Tech settled down and began to fight back.

Tech scored its first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Kassie Harris walked, Krysta Tutsch singled, and Bianca Duran reached on an error to load the bases. Two outs later, Karlee Jensen drew a walk to score pinch runner Casey Ingram and LA Tech trailed 3-1.

Tech tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. Pauline Tufi singled and with two outs, Tutsch blasted her fifth home run of the season over the centerfield fence, tying the game at 3-3.

The game remained tied until the top of the seventh inning. Tori Charters led off with a single - her third hit of the game - and scored on two outs on a single by Tutsch to centerfield where AJ Andrews dove to the ground and couldn't come up with the one hop cleanly. Charters was running all the way and scored on the play to give Tech a 4-3 advantage.

Tutsch ended up on third base with two outs and scored on a throwing error by the LSU infield on a ground ball by Duran as Tech claimed a two-run advantage.

However, the Lady Techsters couldn't record a out in the final frame. Andrews walked and then Bailey Landry singled to put runners on first and second. Bianka Bell then lined a double to centerfield, scoring Andrews and putting runners on second and third with no outs.

Duran was relieved by Tufi who then surrendered the walk-off, three-run home run to the LSU All-American Jaquish.

Tech was led offensively by Charters (3-4, 1 run), Tutsch (3-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI), and Harris (1 run), Jensen (1-2, 1 RBI).

Duran (3-5) took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks in 3.0 innings of action.

The Lady Techsters will return to action Wednesday when they host Grambling State at 6 p.m. in Ruston.
