Clancy Earns C-USA Pitcher of the Week Honor

Feb. 23, 2015

RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech pitcher Tyler Clancy has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league Monday, after leading the Bulldogs to their first win at home this past Friday with a shutout performance against UAPB.

The junior lefthander helped Louisiana Tech clinch its first victory at home in the first game of a doubleheader against UAPB on Friday after tossing seven complete innings of one-hit baseball. In what was his second outing of the season for the Bulldogs, Clancy held the Golden Lions scoreless through seven innings, while walking just one batter and striking out five on the day.

LA Tech hitters backed Clancy up with nine runs of offense as the Bulldogs defeated UAPB, 9-3, in the first game on Friday and the lefty picked up his first collegiate win on the mound.

Through two starts thus far, Clancy has posted a 4.35 earned run average and a 1-1 record in 10.1 innings on the mound. He has struck out 10 and is holding opposing hitters to a .162 batting average.

This marks the first weekly honor a Bulldog player has earned this season and the first pitching honor for Clancy, who is a native of Gilbert, Arizona and is in his first year at LA Tech after transferring from Gateway Community College.

Louisiana Tech returns to the diamond this Wednesday, Feb. 25 to play hosts to UL-Monroe in a midweek matchup at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston.
