March 24, 2015 RUSTON, La. - Louisiana Tech senior right-hander Phil Maton picked up his second pitching award of the week after being honored as one of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Baseball Players of the Week, announced by the organization on Monday.
Maton was also named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week earlier in the day Monday following his two-hit performance in a 2-1 victory for LA Tech over Southern Miss in Ruston this past weekend. The senior was named the LSWA Pitcher of the Week after striking out a career-high 12 batters and holding USM hitless after the first inning.
On the season, Maton leads the LA Tech pitching staff with a 3-0 record in six starts and a 2.45 earned run average in 36.2 innings pitched. The right-hander currently leads the team and all C-USA pitchers with 42 strikeouts.
This marks the first LSWA weekly honor of Maton's career with the Bulldogs.
LA Tech returns to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday to host Grambling State in a midweek matchup at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park in Ruston.
