March 8, 2015 RUSTON - Louisiana Tech saw a trio of players earn all-conference team awards as the Conference USA office released the list of honorees on Sunday afternoon.
Louisiana Tech senior Whitney Frazier earned first team all-conference honors while senior teammate Kelia Shelton earned second team accolades. Freshman Tiara Davenport earned a spot on the five-player all-freshman team.
Frazier (El Dorado, Ark.) was one of eight players voted to the all-conference first team, joining Shaneese Bailey (FAU), Olivia Jones (Middle Tennessee), Jennie Simms (ODU), Tamara Jones (USM), Janae Smith (UAB), Chastity Gooch (WKU) and Alexis Govan (WKU).
Frazier started all 29 games for LA Tech this year as her consecutive games started streak is at 97 entering the upcoming Conference USA Tournament in Birmingham this week. The 6-foot guard/forward averaged 14.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and 67 percent from the free throw line.
The 17th leading scorer in LA Tech history with 1,590 points, Frazier scored in double figures 21 times - including five 20-plus point performances - while leading the team in scoring 12 times. She led Tech in rebounding nine times and recorded three double doubles.
Frazier is one of only three players in LA Tech history to score 1,500 points, grab 800 rebounds, register 200 assists and record 175 steals in a career.
Shelton (Rock Hill, S.C.) earned second team all-Conference USA honors after averaging 13.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 35 percent from the field, 34-of-106 from the three-point line and 75 percent from the free throw line.
She joins Lefty Webster (Charlotte), Chuckwuka Ezeigbo (Marshall0, Leah Scott (Marshall), Christal Porter (Rice), Jerontay Clemons (USM), Cameasha Turner (UTEP) and Kendall Noble (WKU) on the eight-player second team.
Shelton earned a pair of Conference USA Player of the Week awards this season while scoring in double figures 20 times, including five 20-plus point performances, and leading the Lady Techsters in points seven times. She scored a season-high 31 points in an 81-77 loss at Top 25 Mississippi State in early December.
For the fourth straight year, Louisiana Tech had a player earn a spot on the all-freshman team as Davenport joined Kiandre'a Pound (FIU), Malia Kency (FAU), Lulu McKinney (UTEP) and Tatia Brown (WKU).
Davenport (Duncanville, Texas) averaged 6.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game as a rookie while shooting 41 percent from the field, 9-of-32 from the three-point line and 66 percent from the free throw line. She scored in double figures eight times while leading the team in scoring on two occasions.
Her biggest game came in her collegiate debut when she hit back-to-back three-pointers in the closing minutes to lead the Lady Techsters to a 76-69 road win against eventual Southland Conference champion Stephen F. Austin.
Davenport scored a season-high 19 points in a win over Harvard and recorded her first career double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds in a road conference win at FIU. She also had double digit scoring performances against LSU (10 points, 4 steals) and Georgia Tech (12 points).
The trio will lead Louisiana Tech into Wednesday's first round Conference USA Tournament game against Florida Atlantic. Tipoff from Bartow Arena is set for 1:30 p.m.
