Solid Singles Play Leads to 6-1 Win

SHREVEPORT, La. - Louisiana Tech used solid singles play from top to bottom in taking down Tyler Junior College, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon at the Southern Hills Tennis Center in Shreveport.

LA Tech (7-9) successfully rebounded from a tough conference loss while also handing the No. 2 ranked NJCAA team in the country Tyler JC (11-6) its first loss in six matches.

"We played very well against a great junior college team," head coach Chad Camper said. "We were pushed in doubles and our singles had a lot of excitement and thrills. I am very happy about today's result."

The day started with winning the doubles with victories across the board for the Lady Techsters . Alexandra Starkova and Jazmin Britos reunited to defeat the No. 1 NJCAA doubles team of Joanna Savva and Paige Murdock, 8-4, at No. 1.

Also reuniting were Manoela Chiacchio and Taly Merker to cruise to an 8-2 victory at No. 3. The Techsters made it 3-for-3 with Tarrannum Handa and Marta Sramkova winning 9-8 at No. 2.

Playing for the first time this spring at No. 1 singles, Britos elevated her game to upend No. 1 ranked Savva, 7-6, 6-3.

The solid played continued down the lineup with Sramkova playing up at No. 2 and winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, versus Murdock.

Merker, Chiacchio and Haley Ballinger all cruised to straight set victories as well, each surrendering less than three games at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.

LA Tech will conclude its regular season on Saturday, April 11 in Houston against 30th-ranked Rice in a conference matchup.
