May 14, 2015 RUSTON - The Louisiana Tech soccer team may be done with spring workouts, but Donya Salomon-Ali is still going at it on the pitch.
The senior-to-be was selected to play for the Haiti Women's National Team and ended up starting in the international friendly versus Ireland.
Despite the valiant effort, Ireland was able to pull out the 1-0 victory last night on a converted penalty kick in the 21st minute at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.
Salomon-Ali's mother is from Iraq, but her Haitian heritage stems from her father who is Haitian.
"We are very proud to see Donya play international soccer for Haiti," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "She has worked hard and deserves this opportunity. We wish her well and I know the team is immensely proud of her."
Sherry jokingly said he had split loyalties while following the match. On one hand he coaches Salomon-Ali, a third team All-Conference USA selection this past fall. On the other hand, he was born to an Irish family and lived in Ireland as a child.
The junior college transfer shined in her first year at LA Tech, playing all over the field as an attacking forward, a target midfielder and as a center back.
She recorded 11 points on four goals and three assists, taking the second most shots on the team with 42.
