Sept. 3, 2015 Game Notes -- Week 3
RUSTON ââ'¬" Louisiana Tech looks to rebound from two shutout losses suffered in the Trojan Classic last weekend when they travel to face Grambling State on Friday at 4 p.m. at the GSU Soccer Field.
Week three continues on Sunday with another in-state opponent as LA Tech (2-2) plays host to Nicholls State at 1 p.m. at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex.
In the two defeats, the Techsters did a solid job defensively, but the attempt at a different style offensively could not produce many scoring chances.
"Losing those two games might be the best thing to happen to us this season so far," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "We have to get back to highly-organized defense with quick, high-tempo attacking play. We experimented last week and the games showed us we are not quite ready to play a more open style of game yet."
As LA Tech prepares to play its fifth game of the season, Grambling State (0-0) will be getting on the pitch for the first time in 2015.
The Lady Tigers won the first three meetings in the series, but the Techsters have won the past four, including a 9-0 victory last year when Taylor Dennis set a program record with four goals scored.
In game six, LA Tech looks to extend its home winning streak to six when Nicholls (1-1-1) comes to Ruston.
The Colonels are coming off a weekend in which it tied fellow C-USA foe Southern Miss and defeated Southern. They are led by senior forward Spencer Valdespino who recently set the career goals record with her 34th score.
Nicholls is still looking for its first ever win versus LA Tech. The Techsters have claimed victories in all four meetings. The last time these two teams met was in 2010.
"We are excited for these next games," Sherry said. "Grambling has beaten us twice since I have been head coach and Nicholls State has one of the best strikers in the state so we know it will be a tough challenge."
The home match will be streamed live on LA Tech All-Access.
