CHARLOTTE, N.C. ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" Louisiana Tech had its six-match road winning streak come to an end on Friday night, suffering a 4-0 loss to Charlotte at Transamerica Field.

An early defensive mistake cost LA Tech (10-4-1, 2-3 C-USA), something they have been able to avoid this season away from home.

"The score didn't reflect how we played," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "Charlotte's Martha Thomas ended up being the big difference maker in the match. We played some of the best soccer we played all year, but the huge giveaway mistake in the first minute put us behind the eight ball."

It was only 20 seconds into the match when Charlotte (8-5-1, 4-1-1 C-USA) was able to intercept a pass deep in their final third. A quick passing combination led to a low shot inside the far post for Katie O'Neill to give the 49ers an early 1-0 advantage.

The Lady Techsters settled down after that and generated two premiere scoring opportunities in the eighth and ninth minute. The first one was when Kathryn Sloan ran down a long ball and cut it back into the middle of the field, but her shot went off the left post.

Less than a minute later, Sloan had possession at the top of the 18 with another chance to score the equalizer, but that shot grazed the outside of the right post.

In the 15th minute, Charlotte was able to make it 2-0 when Thomas drove a shot from a tough angle 20 yards out but was able to sneak it inside the near post by a diving Kylee Seto.

The 49ers added two more insurance goals in the second half from O'Neill who registered a hat trick with a strong header off a high corner and an upper 90 shot.

LA Tech ended up with an 8-7 shot advantage, half of those coming off the foot of Sloan. Seto recorded two saves in the loss.

LA Tech returns to action on Sunday in a road battle versus Old Dominion. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. CT.
