LA Tech season stats
SAN ANTONIO, Texas ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" The Louisiana Tech soccer team continued its winning ways on Friday night, claiming their fourth straight victory which came via a 3-0 shutout over UTSA at the Park West Athletic Complex.
With the win, LA Tech (14-4-1, 6-3 C-USA) is now up to the most league wins and the second most overall wins in a single season in program history. It was earned by getting goals from Kathryn Sloan, Annabel Prior and Mylene Roy-Ouellet.
"It was a tough game with a very physical opponent which the team handled very well," head coach Kevin Sherry said. "It was a good first half and then we had to make adjustments to handle the onslaught which we knew would come. They left one defender back and threw everything at us.
"Scoring our second goal was a key moment in the game. It gave us a safety net to play with and took a bit of the wind out of their sails. This was a very good win for us."
The Lady Techsters had some great passing combinations early on in the match, but none ended with a shot attempt. That was until the 19th minute when a sequence started by goalkeeper Kylee Seto led to Lisanne Kleygrewe sending a through ball that split the center backs.
Striker Kathryn Sloan was able to run on to the ball, dribble forward and beat the opposing keeper 1v1 for her team-leading ninth goal of the season.
UTSA (7-12, 3-7 C-USA) started to push forward and take more gambles on offense. Their best chance in the first period came in the 42nd minute on a free kick just outside the top of the box, but the shot sailed high over the crossbar.
LA Tech continued to generate scoring opportunities into the second half, including shots that went off the crossbar and 1v1 chances that went wide.
The insurance goal eventually came in the 79th minute when Mylene Roy-Ouellet ran down the ball on the left flank and as she cut it towards the middle she got tripped up just inside the 18. The head referee rewarded the Lady Techsters a penalty kick and Annabel Prior stepped up to convert it for her third goal of the season.
LA Tech was not done though. With UTSA forced to push forward, Roy-Ouellet was able to win a 50/50 ball from her defender and dribble into open space. She eventually dribbled around the diving keeper and punched the shot home to give the Lady Techsters a 3-0 lead.
It was her seventh goal of the season. Freshman Alexandra LeBlanc was credited with the assist on the score.
The Roadrunners finished the match with a 15-10 shot advantage. Five of those came on goal by the home team which Seto was able to save to register her 24th career shutout and 10th overall win of the year.
LA Tech will finish out the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 30 at North Texas. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
