LINCOLN, Neb. ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" It was almost a dead even shooting game from the field and from beyond the arc for Louisiana Tech and Nebraska.

However, the Huskers had a huge advantage from the foul line with 21 made free throws to the Bulldogs six which helped the home team come away with a 65-54 victory on Saturday night inside Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Turnovers also proved costly as LA Tech (1-2) had 17 in what was its second attempt at taking down a Power 5 school on the road, something they have grown accustomed to doing over the last four years.

"We could not get over the hump and build some momentum," head coach Eric Konkol said. "It seemed like every time we got close, we would miss a shot or turn it over. We could not get over the hump tonight. You have to give Nebraska credit. I thought they played some stingy defense and made it very difficult on us."

In the first two games of the season, the Bulldogs missed on their first seven three-point shot attempts. That was not the case against Nebraska (3-0). Jacobi Boykins nailed two in the early going and Qiydar Davis drained one from the wing to help build an early 15-11 lead midway through the first half.

However, the Huskers responded with a 9-0 run to retake the lead thanks in large part to Tai Webster who scored 17 of his game-high 23 points in the first 20 minutes of action to give his squad a 32-26 lead at intermission.

After Webster hit two free throws (finished 11-of-12) four minutes into the second half to get the Huskers lead up to 42-33, the Bulldogs clawed back to get it within one possession after a mini 6-0 run which included made jumpers from Jacobi Boykins, Joniah White and Jalen Harris.

From there, it was Nebraska's Jack McVeigh who got hot by making eight straight points. LA Tech went with a small lineup late in the game and cut it to within six with a little under a minute to go, but the turnover bug bit twice.

The 'Dogs only had one player in double figures and that was Erik McCree who finished with 16 points (12 in the second half) to along with a game-high eight rebounds. The team finished 21-of-57 (37 percent) from the field and just 6-of-12 from the charity stripe.

With the front court of Omar Sherman and White in foul trouble much of the game, freshman Oliver Powell stepped in and provided quality minutes, contributing seven points in the contest.

Other the other end, the Huskers shot 88 percent from the foul line (21-of-24) while only having 19 made field goals in the game with a shooting percentage of 37. Webster and McVeigh combined for 44 points.

LA Tech returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at home versus Oklahoma Baptist. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
