NACOGDOCHES, Texas ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" Louisiana Tech ended Stephen F. Austin's home unbeaten streak on Wednesday afternoon with a 6-1 victory at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
SFA (6-3) came in having won all six of its home matches this spring season, but LA Tech (7-2) swept the three doubles matches to pick up the first point and followed that up with five wins in singles.
"We played a very good team today and were able to find a way to win," head coach Chad Camper said. "We stayed offensive and our energy was great throughout. Alba stepped in and played a solid doubles match. In singles, Manoela and Zoe picked up strong wins to help us clinch the match."
Getting the day started was the tandem of Jazmin Britos and Marta Sramkova winning, 6-2, on court two to remain a perfect 4-0 in duals as partners.
Alexandra Starkova and Zoe Chen followed suit with a 6-4 victory on court one to clinch the opening point. Court three was played out with the Techsters completing the sweep as Alba Escalona Perny and Manoela Chiacchio teamed up for the first time for a 6-4 win.
In singles, Chiacchio quickly gave the Lady Techsters a 2-0 team advantage by overpowering Liza Aginskaya, 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot. Sramkova was not far behind as the junior bested Valeria Terentyeva, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 3 position to notch her seventh straight win at singles.
Coming up with the clincher for the Techsters was Chen who delivered a 6-2, 7-5 victory on court four.
LA Tech also picked up insurance wins at the top two spots from Britos and Starkova. Britos extended her unbeaten streak to seven while Starkova claimed her first singles win outside of the No. 1 spot.
The Ladyjacks got their lone victory from the No. 5 position.
LA Tech now gets set for a three-game home stand which starts on Friday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. versus Texas State at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
