Head coach Eric Konkol

On LA Tech's performance vs. North Texas:

"I think the guys really gutted it out. It wasn't a pretty game. I thought we were lacking the energy and intensity level we typically play with, but I thought the guys found a way in moments playing different defenses to just find a way. We have asked them all year long to be flexible, find a way and that is what they did tonight."

On the team's approach in overtime:

"I thought we went on a couple runs during the second half, took a lead. They came storming back, hit some shots. We missed a good number of free throws and that can be deflating sometimes. We rebounded a couple, but Alex [Hamilton] making that shot gave us momentum in overtime and then got the tip and Dayon [Griffin] hit the three that gave us a nice charge to go along with a couple stops. I just felt like, 'Hey, we can taste this. Let's keep it going.'"

On the slow start in the first half for both teams:

"I think it was such a defensive struggle in the first half. It was very physical. They have a very big team. They did a nice job of really trying to protect the paint, and yet, we didn't get enough threes. For us to shoot 14 threes in a 45-minute game is unusual for us. I thought it lacked pace and rhythm for both teams very early."

On going to the 1-3-1 zone:

"We had a zone in earlier in the year. It fit that personnel. It was really one we like for Q and Q's not playing this year. We were looking for something we thought could stall people a little bit and protect the middle of the floor because there are times in the game it seems like teams are really trying to drive, put their head down and go. I thought with our length, our wings, our height at 6-4, 6-5, and those types of guys, that this particular 1-3-1 could help us and I thought it helped us tonight."

"I think it is something we are going to keep working on. I think it fits our personnel. It's just a matter of matchup and the types of teams we play, if it is something we think could work in that particular game."

On Merrill Holden's performance:

"We went to him early and that was part of the plan. We wanted to get him some inside touches to get him involved in the game. I thought his rebounding was huge. He had some key rebounds down the stretch and he made big free throws. He has shown he can do that. He has done it in several games. He went 5-of-6 tonight. Merrill has nice touch and we have to keep finding him ways to get some good looks."
