April 14, 2016 RUSTON -- With it being just one week away from the start of the Conference USA Tournament, Louisiana Tech will have two more regular season matches this weekend to prepare starting with its home finale on Friday versus Central Arkansas at 3 p.m. at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
LA Tech (14-5) will then round things out on Sunday when it travels to Houston to take on league foe and 41st-ranked Rice at 11 a.m. at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
"For us, we are trying to stay healthy and fine tune somethings," head coach Chad Camper said of the remaining matches. "There is not a lot of development going on at this stage in the season, rather just staying focused and motivated. I really wanted this team to be pushed to the limits in the final games to get us ready for what is to be a very competitive conference tournament."
The Lady Techsters got back on the winning track this past Saturday with a 7-0 shutout victory against Jackson State. It was Senior Day and all three seniors had a hand in blanking the Tigers.
Alexandra Starkova picked up her team-leading 12th singles victory, Manoela Chiacchio notched win No. 11 of the season and Taly Merker grabbed her first singles win of the season.
Central Arkansas (13-8) is coming off back-to-back losses to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Abilene Christian. Prior to the two defeats, they had won five in a row. UCA's Amiru Shimoguchi leads the team with a whopping 17 singles wins.
Rice (9-9) catapulted up the Oracle/ITA Tennis team rankings after downing nationally-ranked South Florida and Tulsa. However, the Owls had their two-game winning streak end on Thursday with a 4-2 loss at Baylor. They are led by Katherine Ip who is ranked No. 85 in singles.
