HOUSTON ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" In its regular season finale, Louisiana Tech faced one of its toughest opponents on the spring schedule in 41st-ranked Rice and ended up falling 7-0 to the Owls on Sunday afternoon at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

LA Tech (14-6) has now lost three of its last four matches, but hopes to get things turned around at the Conference USA Tournament which starts on Thursday, April 21 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

"We came out slow but was able to really give them a run at doubles," head coach Chad Camper said. "After losing the doubles point, we fought for a while, but Rice was too tough. We needed this match against a talented opponent to prepare for the conference tournament."

It seemed as though Rice (10-9) was going to cruise to the doubles point, winning 6-0 on court three and being up 5-0 on court one. However, the duo of Alexandra Starkova and Zoe Chen fought back to win four straight games.

The Techsters could not complete the comeback though, dropping a 6-4 decision at No. 1. Meanwhile, the tandem of Jazmin Britos and Marta Sramkova were up 5-4 and had match point before the match was stopped due to the doubles point being decided.

In singles, LA Tech came out slow and never could muster any momentum. The team ended up losing in straight sets in five of the six matches.

Starkova was the lone player to win a set, taking the opening set 6-1 at No. 1, but ended up losing in a third set super breaker by a score of 10-7.

The Techsters now await their seed and first round matchup in the league tournament hosted by Middle Tennessee.
