DENTON, Texas - Bailey Allen was an out away from a perfect game and Preslee Gallaway retired 14 consecutive batters as LA Tech dominated North Texas (20-25, 3-14 C-USA) in a sweep of Saturday's double header.
Everything went right for Louisiana Tech (26-16, 7-7 C-USA) on Saturday in Denton, Texas as the Lady Techsters took down the Mean Green 12-0 in five innings in game one and 5-2 in game two.
Bailey Allen got the nod in game one and did not disappoint. The sophomore allowed just one hit over five innings pitched and that lone hit came with two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the fifth.
While Allen mowed down the Mean Green bats, the LA Tech bats decimated the North Texas pitching staff.
Morgan Turkoly and Kristen Miles both reached base four times a piece, while the two also combined to score five runs for the Lady Techsters.
LA Tech put a five spot on the board in the third inning without the use of the long ball. Pauline Tufi and Katie Smith both had two-RBI hits in the inning, while Karlee Jensen brought home the final run of the inning with a groundout.
Louisiana Tech put up five runs in the fifth inning as well. Taria Page hit a no-doubt bomb to left field that left everyone in attendance speechless. The three-run home run ricocheted off of a shed that stands nearly 100 feet beyond the wall in left field.
Later in the inning, Tufi and Turkoly would hit back-to-back doubles to bring home the final runs of the ball game.
Bailey Allen (12-6) picked up the win, allowing just three base runners over five innings pitch.
Louisiana Tech once again wasted no time getting on the score board in game two, with some power coming from an unlikely source.
With two runners on, Smith brought home the first run of the game on an RBI-single to right field. That brought Karlee Jensen to the plate.
Jensen lifted just her second career home run over the left field wall and when she crossed the plate, Louisiana Tech held a 3-0 lead.
North Texas would scratch across an unearned run in the bottom of the second, but that would be the last Mean Green player to reach base until the seventh inning.
LA Tech added an insurance run in both the fourth and fifth innings. Smith picked up her second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly in the fourth, while Anna Cross lifted her conference-leading, 12th home run to left field in the fifth inning.
Gallaway would set down 14 straight batters from the second inning until the start of the seventh.
North Texas got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but Louisiana Tech turned their 20th double play of the season to end the game.
Preslee Gallaway (7-1) was credited with the win, allowing one earned run over seven innings. Gallaway did not allow a walk in the contest.
LA Tech will go for the series sweep against North Texas tomorrow at 1 p.m.
