Box Score April 24, 2016 DENTON, Texas - For the third time this weekend, the Lady Techsters bats provided an offensive explosion and the North Texas pitching staff had no answer.
LA Tech (27-16, 8-7 C-USA) blasted three home runs in a 9-3 rout of the Mean Green (20-26, 3-15 C-USA) in Sunday's series finale in Denton, Texas.
North Texas took their first lead of the series in the first inning, but consecutive doubles from Katie Smith and Karlee Jensen had the game knotted at one going into the bottom of the second.
The Mean Green fought back, as Rhylie Makawe led off the bottom of the second with a home run to center field, but LA Tech's response in the next half inning would seal LA Tech's 27th victory of the season.
After Kristen Miles drew a one-out walk, Pauline Tufi put an 0-2 pitch into the trees beyond the left field wall giving LA Tech a 3-2 lead.
Morgan Turkoly followed with a second consecutive no-doubter, this one to center field, extending the Louisiana Tech lead to 4-2. That was the third time this season that the Lady Techsters have hit back-to-back home runs.
North Texas would tack on another run in the third inning, as Danielle Gregory hit a solo home run. That is when Anna Cross entered the game and slammed the door.
Cross would retire the first 11 North Texas hitters she would face, before allowing a walk with one-out in the seventh.
While Cross mowed down the Mean Green lineup, the Lady Techsters went back to work at the plate.
In the fourth inning Kristen Miles delivered an RBI-single and in the fifth inning a sacrifice fly from Taria Page gave LA Tech a 6-3 lead.
LA Tech would put the game away in the top of the sixth inning, as Kristen Miles opened the inning with a single and Tufi followed with her second home run of the game. Later in the inning a sacrifice fly from Kassie Harris would score LA Tech's third run of the inning and final run of the game.
LA Tech won its third consecutive series for the second time in school history and now sits at fourth in the Western Division and fifth overall in Conference USA.
