LUBBOCK, Texas - Louisiana Tech racked up 572 yards of total offense, but the Texas Tech Red Raiders offense was too much to overcome as the Bulldogs fell, 59-45, in front of 57,515 in attendance on the road Saturday night at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.

Louisiana Tech combined for 28 points in the second half, but the Texas Tech offense was too tough to stop on the night as the Red Raiders, who came into the game as the No. 3 scoring offense in the country, put up 666 yards of total offense.

"I was proud of the way we fought and did not give up until the end," head coach Skip Holtz said. "There was not any quit in these guys. There were an awful lot of bright spots on the offensive side of the ball. I think we scored every time we had the ball in the second half. I was really proud of the way we competed in the second half. There are definitely some things we have to get straight. I don't want to take anything away from Texas Tech and what they were able to do tonight. I think [Patrick Mahomes] is a really talented player. I was really impressed with him tonight."

Ryan Higgins was 20-for-32 passing on the night for 311 yards for three touchdowns, while Jarred Craft had a career night with 21 carries for 151 yards and a touchdown.

Trent Taylor led the Bulldog receivers with seven catches for 166 yards and two touchdown receptions, while Carlos Henderson also impressed with nine catches for 130 yards and a touchdown catch.

Texas Tech quarterback ended the night 26-for-36 for 470 passing yards and five touchdowns, while he also carried the ball 12 times and rushed for 37 yards and a score.

On the opening drive, Texas Tech completed a 12-play, 75-yard drive with a 12-yard rushing touchdown by running back Demarcus Felton to take a 7-0 lead over the Bulldogs with just under nine minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Louisiana Tech responded with a 77-yard drive of their own, but the Bulldogs were halted at the three-yard line, which resulted in a 20-yard field goal by Jonathan Barnes to get LA Tech on the board.

The Red Raiders wasted no time putting up more points on the board thanks to Patrick Mahomes 64-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Giles to give Texas Tech a quick 14-3 lead with over three minutes left in the opening quarter of play.

Texas Tech added to its lead with another touchdown strike from Mahomes, this one for 36 yards, but LA Tech responded with a 6-play, 71-yard drive that was highlighted by a 29-yard rush by Rhashid Bonnette and capped off by a 1-yard touchdown carry by Kam McKnight, the first score of his career, to cut Texas Tech's lead to 21-10 at the start of the second quarter.

The fast-paced Texas Tech offense did not slow down from there as Mahomes orchestrated another 70-plus yard drive and finished it off with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Cantrell to extend the Red Raider lead to 28-10 early in the second quarter.

Midway through the second quarter, Texas Tech dialed up a double-reverse pitch play that resulted in a 42-yard score for Giles to put the Red Raiders up 35-10.

A missed field goal by the Red Raiders opened the door for the Bulldog offense, which drove down the field with just over two minutes remaining until halftime to cut the Texas Tech lead to 35-17 with a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Jarred Craft.

Louisiana Tech opened the second half with the ball and made its first possession of the third quarter count with a 12-play, 75-yard scoring drive that was capped off by Kam McKnight's second rushing touchdown of the game out of the wildcat formation to make it just a 35-24 lead for Texas Tech early in the third.

The Red Raiders responded with a methodical 75-yard scoring drive down the field that resulted in Mahomes fifth touchdown pass of the game and a 42-24 lead for Texas Tech over the Bulldogs with under seven minutes to play in the third quarter.

In no time, LA Tech cut the lead to 11 once again and needed only four plays to do so when Ryan Higgins scrambled on the next drive before connecting with Carlos Henderson for a 55-yard touchdown pass to cut Texas Tech's lead to 42-31 with 4:40 remaining in the third quarter.

From there, LA Tech put up two more touchdowns thanks to 76- and 37-yard receptions, but Texas Tech countered with two touchdowns and a field goal to close out the game.

LA Tech returns to action at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 when the Bulldogs continue their road stretch and open Conference USA play at Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
