COLLEGE STATION, Texas ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" The Louisiana Tech women's tennis put up a strong fight, taking three singles matches into a third set, but the Lady Techsters would end up falling 7-0 to No. 22 Texas A&M on Wednesday afternoon at the George T. Mitchell Tennis Center.

Jazmin Britos, Nadja Manjon and Alba Escalona Perny were all able to grab a set against one of the best teams in the country, but two fell by scores of 10-8 and 11-9 in a super breaker and the third lost in a 12-point tiebreaker in the third set.

"We put up a great fight today," head coach Amanda Stone said. "I am so proud of how tough we are playing at this point in the season. Jazmin, Nadja and Alba particular played great today. In all three of their singles matches, it was a matter of only a few points and we win those lines.

"So far, we are looking stronger in every match. Now we will look ahead to our home opener on Sunday against Sam Houston State."

The duo of Britos and Marta Sramkova were tied at 2-2 with the 17th-ranked tandem of Rutuja Bhosale and Rachel Pierson, but the Aggies were able to string together four straight games to win 6-2 at No. 1.

Texas A&M (2-0) also picked up a 6-2 victory at No. 2 to claim the doubles point.

LA Tech (1-2) came out strong on multiple courts once singles play got underway. Britos took the first set in a tiebreaker on court one against No. 85 Pierson and Manjon registered a dominating 6-1 first set win on court four.

However, the Aggies were able to put together straight-set wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 to claim the team win. The remaining three matches went the distance and all went the way of the home team.

Britos ultimately fell 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 1, Manjon lost 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 at No. 4 and Perny suffered a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) loss at No. 5.

The Lady Techsters return to dual action on Sunday, Jan. 29 in their home opener against Sam Houston State. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
