NATCHITOCHES, La. ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" The Louisiana Tech women's tennis team was able to pick up three wins at the bottom of the singles lineup, but Northwestern State grabbed the three at the top and the doubles point to win 4-3 on Sunday afternoon at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
A day after beating one in-state foe in McNeese State, LA Tech (4-4) could not pick up the big points when it needed to defeat another in-state opponent in Northwestern State (3-3).
The doubles duo of Jazmin Britos and Alba Escalona Perny got the first victory of the day, winning 6-2 at the No. 1 position. However, the Lady Demons snatched the doubles point with wins of 6-2 and 6-4 at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
NSU was then able to clinch the match in singles with three straight-set wins on courts one, two and three.
Perny gave the Lady Techsters their first point of the match, downing Vladislava Litvinova by score of 6-4, 6-4 from the No. 5 spot. The other two points came in marathon matches from Marta Sramkova and Jill van den Dungen.
Sramkova defeated Emilija Dancetovic 6-1, 5-6, 7-5 on court four and Dungen battled back from a set down to outlast Judit Castillo 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 on court six.
LA Tech returns to action next weekend, starting with a road matchup against Incarnate Word on Saturday, Feb. 18. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
