EL PASO, Texas - Louisiana Tech senior high jumper Chloe Lautric capped off the 2017 Conference USA Outdoor Championships by earning a silver medal with a second-place finish on Sunday, while Jordan Patrick broke his own school record in the decathlon to wrap up a busy four days in El Paso for the Bulldogs and Lady Techsters.
Lautric claimed silver after finishing in second place in the high jump on Sunday with a mark of 5-8 (1.73m) in the event, which ranks tied for 10th in Louisiana Tech history. Lautric's jump earned seven team points for the Lady Techsters and currently ranks in the top 100 in the nation for the entire outdoor season in the high jump.
In the decathlon, Jordan Patrick finished fifth in the competition to earn four team points for the Bulldogs, while his 6,588 point total in the 10 events broke his own school record of 6,063, which he set a year ago at the 2016 C-USA Outdoor Championships in Murfreesboro. In addition to Patrick, Jacob Cambre also competed in the decathlon for the Bulldogs and finished 12th with 5,229 points.
Overall, Louisiana Tech's women finished in 12th place in the team scoring with 22 points with UTEP taking home the title of champions for the 2017 outdoor season. On the men's side, LA Tech finished in 10th place, while WKU took home the title in first place.
LA Tech's women recorded several impressive marks in the field events over the four-day stretch, including a fourth-place finish by Camille Lott in the javelin with a throw of 142-1 (43.31m) to earn five team points for the Lady Techsters.
In the women's shot put, Rhea Thompson finished in seventh place with a throw of 47-6.25 (14.48m) to earn two team points, while she also placed 11th in the discus with a mark of 138-4 (42.17m).
Freshman Alies Van Berkum came in sixth place in the pole vault on Sunday with a mark of 11-6.25 (3.51m) to earn three team points for the Lady Techsters, while Janiel McDonald finished in the top 10 in the long jump with a mark of 18-10 (5.74m) to place ninth overall.
In the women's running events, Elia Nero earned five team points for LA Tech after finishing in fourth place in the 800-meter run with a final time of 2:12.46 in the event. In the 3,000m steeplechase, LA Tech's Kacie Kaufman finished in the top 15 after placing 14th with a time of 12:07.20.
As for the men's field events, LA Tech had two student-athletes rack up a combined nine points in the pole vault with Gregory Ballard finishing fourth with a mark of 15-7.25 (4.76m) and Daniel Sams placing fifth with a mark of 15-1.50 (4.61m) to finish back to back.
Isaac Samuels came in fourth in the discus throw with a mark of 167-2 (50.95m) to earn five team points, while he also finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 51-2.25 (15.60m) to claim two more team points for the Bulldogs.
In the men's javelin, Tyler Griggers finished in seventh place with a throw of 189-0 (57.61m) to earn two team points for the Bulldogs, while Tamario Lattin added another point for the men after placing eighth in the long jump with a jump of 23-6.75 (7.18m)
Athletes now await the NCAA East Preliminary Championship Qualifying List to see who will have the chance to compete in the NCAA postseason later this month.
