@LATechWBB Looks to Bounce Back at Marshall

Jan. 12, 2018

HUNTINGTON, W.V. ââ'¬" Following its first loss in more than a month, Louisiana Tech looks to bounce back when the Lady Techsters face Marshall Saturday at 12 p.m. CT at the Cam Henderson Center.

Tech (11-5, 2-1 C-USA) saw its seven-game winning streak snapped Thursday night, falling 65-50 at Southern Miss in a game that saw the Lady Techsters struggle on both ends of the floor. Marshall (6-9, 0-2 C-USA) had Thursday night off after the Thundering Herd dropped their first two C-USA games on the road last week against Florida Atlantic and FIU.

Due to travel issues, the Lady Techsters will take the floor Saturday without the normal luxury of having a day to prepare on the floor for the Thundering Herd. Although Tech arrived in Huntington without delay, the team bags did not ââ'¬" thus forcing Brooke Stoehr and Co. to do a walk-through in the hotel Friday night.

"We aren't going to make excuses," said Stoehr. "We talk to the players about being mentally tough all the time. This is one of those tests for us. We did everything we could do to prepare for this game outside of stepping on the floor to practice. We have to come out with great energy and effort and be locked in mentally."

Marshall won its final three non-conference games against Kentucky Christian, Tennessee State and Alice Lloyd before falling on the two-game Florida road trip. The Thundering Herd is led by guard Shayna Gore, who is averaging 18.3 points per game.

Gore and LA Tech's Taylor Stahly are two of the top three-point threats in Conference USA. Gore has connected on 41-of-105 three-pointers while Stahly (11.0 ppg) has hit on 43-of-99 three-pointers. Stahly has a string of 16 consecutive games with at least one three-pointer made, the longest streak by a Lady Techster since Aarica Ray-Boyd connected in 16 straight games in 2005-06.

Tech will have to shoot the basketball much better after hitting a season-low 26 percent in the loss to Southern Miss. Tech's top two offensive threats ââ'¬" Alexus Malone and Kierra Anthony ââ'¬" hit only 1-of-21 shots in the loss to Southern Miss.

The series between the two programs is tied at 2-2 with the road team winning the last three meetings. Tech is 2-1 all-time at the Cam Henderson Center, including last year's 72-54 win.

The contest can be heard on the LA Tech Sports Network on KNBB 97.7 FM and KTKC 92.9 FM with the pregame show starting at 11:30 a.m.
