RUSTON – It is another crucial matchup for the Louisiana Tech soccer team as they will make their final road trip of the regular season on Sunday to face Marshall at 12 p.m. CT at Hoops Family Field.
Â
LA Tech (11-5-1, 4-3-1 C-USA) had a big home stand this past week, picking up six points on one-goal victories over UTEP (1-0) and UTSA (3-2). With two matches left, the Lady Techsters are currently in a four-way tie for fifth place in the league standings.
Â
Freshman forward
Connor Barker played an important role in getting the two home wins. The striker scored the golden goal 37 seconds into the first overtime period to down the Miners.Â
Â
She then followed that performance up with another great performance against the Roadrunners, scoring the first two goals of the game, becoming just the fourth freshman in LA Tech history to register multiple goals in a conference match. As a result, she was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Week.
Â
LA Tech has been unstoppable at home, winning seven straight at the Lady Techster Soccer Complex and having a 12-match unbeaten streak in league matches.Â
Â
On the other hand, the Lady Techsters have struggled on the road this season, especially in conference matches where they have three losses and one tie. They look to pick up their first road win in Huntington, West Virginia.
Â
Marshall (5-8-2, 3-5-0 C-USA) comes into Sunday with nine points and in 10th place in the conference standings with two games remaining. Â
Â
The Thundering Herd opened league action with three wins in four matches. However, they have dropped their last four games with the last one being a 3-0 loss to North Texas.
Â
Marshall is led offensively by the sisters Marah Abu-Tayeh and Farah Abu-Tayeh who have combined to score 13 of the team's 19 goals. In net has been Megan Bonelli who has totaled 68 saves with two shutouts.
Â
Sunday will mark the sixth meeting between LA Tech and Marshall on the pitch. The Lady Techsters won the first two games in the series, but the Herd evened it with two wins of their own. Last year's game went back-and-forth and ultimately ended in a 2-2 tie.
