RUSTON ÃÆ'¢Ã¢'¬" Sonia Chen extended her singles winning streak to 10, but that was the only point the Louisiana Tech women's tennis team would score as they fell 4-1 to Northwestern State on Monday afternoon at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.

LA Tech (7-8) got off to a sluggish start in doubles that proved costly. Down scores of 4-1, 3-1 and 3-1 across the three courts, the Lady Techsters were able to battle back to even the match at 5-all at No. 2 and No. 3.

However, NSU (12-6) got a 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot and followed that up with a 7-5 win at No. 2 to take the opening point in the team match and then get three points in the singles lineup.

"We have to bring something more to the court when we play competitive teams like Northwestern State," head coach Amanda Stone said. "It is a positive though that we keep improving our level of tennis against good players. We are becoming better players, but as a team we have to figure out how to bring aggressiveness and fight to every match."

The singles matches were split early on with the Lady Techsters going up a set on courts one, three and five while the Lady Demons went up a set on courts two, four and six.

NSU was able to go up 3-0 in the match after getting straight-set victories by Polina Ivanova and Ela Iwaniuk at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions, respectively.

LA Tech was able to respond with Chen cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Emilija Dancetovic on court three. The Taiwan native continues to amaze, having not lost in singles in almost two months while surrendering just two total sets.

She becomes one of just three Lady Techsters since 2012 (Joanna Nalborska and Jazmin Britos) to record a double-digit singles winning streak during dual play.

While Angela Lorenzo was up 6-4, 3-2 on court five and Nadja Manjon was just getting underway in the third set on court one after splitting the first two (6-4, 4-6), the Lady Demons' Kateryna Avram clinched the match with a straight-sets win on court six.

LA Tech will have its final home match of the spring season on Thursday, April 5 when they battle Grambling State. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
