LA Tech Adds Power Forward Signee

April 19, 2018

RUSTON - Louisiana Tech added another Bulldog to its roster on Thursday afternoon as head coach Eric Konkol announced the signing of junior college power forward Armstrong Ojunkwu to a National Letter of Intent.

Ojunkwu brings a big frame of 6-feet-9-inches, 245 pounds to Ruston after having spent the past two years at San Diego Mesa College in San Diego, California.

This past season, the Nigerian native was named First Team All-Pacific Coast South and First Team STLB All-SoCal after averaging a double-double with an average of 15.3 points and a team-high 10.1 rebounds per game.

He made 24 starts, shooting 55 percent from the field while registering 11 double-doubles. Some of his highlight performances included scoring a career-high 38 points on 15-of-19 shooting versus LA Harbor and a 19-rebound effort, including 10 offensive boards, versus Bakersfield.

His rebounding average ranked second in the league and was the 10th best in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA). He averaged 3.6 offensive boards per game and also totaled 20 blocks.

As a freshman for the Olympians, Ojunkwu averaged 16.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while shooting 51 percent from the field. He scored in double figures in 24 of 26 games with eight 20+ scoring performances.

He totaled 11 double-doubles that year in route to being named First Team All-Pacific Coast South.

Ojunkwu joins fellow spring signee Ra'Shawn Langston and early period signee Stacey Thomas as members of this recruiting class.
