RUSTON - Louisiana Tech women's soccer added some depth in the midfield on Tuesday with the signing of Mazie Jones, announced by head coach Kevin Sherry.

Jones, a center midfielder who attends International School of the Americas (magnet program) and Lee High School in San Antonio, Texas, is a two-time first team all-state selection by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches.

"This is a great addition to the squad," Sherry said. "We are always looking to improve every year and Mazie brings with her a unique skillset which has been lacking in our squad. She is a midfield player who likes to be positive and is not afraid to take players on 1v1. Mazie is driven by a burning desire to succeed and I have no doubt she will help us improve as a team."

Jones, a two-year captain, has racked up 29 goals and 41 assists during her four years of varsity soccer while also lettering in cross country and track for two years.

On top of being an all-state honoree, she has also been selected to the Regional All-Stars Team and the State All-Stars Team in 2017 per TopDrawerSoccer.

"I decided to come to Louisiana Tech because I appreciated coach Sherry's vision of a team driven by hard work and a passion for the game," Jones said. "His philosophies made it clear to me that I could undergo extreme growth as a player and person within the Louisiana Tech soccer program."

As a junior, she was a member of the All-City Soccer Team as well as the All-City Academic Athlete Team.

Jones joins the 15 signees that inked back in February as part of the 2018 recruiting class.
