RUSTON – After enjoying a home sweep this past weekend, the Louisiana Tech soccer team heads back out to begin a three-game road stretch starting on Friday night at 6 p.m. CT versus Florida Atlantic at FAU Soccer Stadium.
Â
LA Tech will then head to Miami on Sunday afternoon to take on FIU at 12 p.m. CT at FIU Soccer Stadium.
Â
After dropping the opening Conference USA match, the Lady Techsters got a crucial six points with thrilling victories over Old Dominion and WKU.Â
Â
In the last game against the Lady Toppers, the Lady Techsters were able to get a dramatic, game-winning goal from sophomore
Amber Posthauer in the 88th minute to pull out the 2-1 win.Â
Â
Posthauer also came off the bench against the Monarchs this past Friday and scored the opening goal of the match. Another key offensive weapon (albeit from the back line) was junior
Jaelyn Peeples who netted goals in both matches as well, the first of her career, while playing center back for the first time.
Â
LA Tech (9-3-0, 2-1-0 C-USA) now has six players who have registered multiple goals this season, led by junior
Kaylee Zettler who has six which is tied for the third most in the league.Â
Â
Getting both wins in net was junior
Carlotta Cartelli, improving her record this season to 6-1-0.
Â
Florida Atlantic (5-6-0, 2-0-0 C-USA) is also tied atop the league standings along with LA Tech currently with six points, having registered two league victories over Marshall and UAB.
Â
The Owls prepared for conference with a grueling non-conference schedule, facing the likes of Ole Miss, Arkansas, Baylor, Miami and Florida. Offensively, they are led by Tiril Haga and Mary O'Hara who have combined for seven goals. In net is Jennifer Ocampo who has 44 total saves and two shutouts.Â
Â
Meanwhile, Sunday's opponent FIU (0-11-0, 0-3-0 C-USA) is still searching for its first win of the season. The Panthers have lost their three league games to UTEP, Charlotte and most recently a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Marshall.
Â
They are anchored offensively by Ashley Adams and Kaydeen Jack who have combined to score all seven of the team's goals this season. In net is Christin Velazquez who has registered 65 saves on the year.
Â
It will be the fourth meeting ever between LA Tech and FAU. The Lady Techsters won the first meeting in 2014, an overtime victory in Ruston, but have lost the last two matches to the Owls.Â
Â
The series is tied 2-2-0 with FIU. The Panthers took the first two meetings, but LA Tech has won 2-0 in each of the last two years, including last year's matchup in Miami.Â
