Courtois Named C-USA Field Athlete of the Week

Courtois set a new school and meet record at Friday's Ted Nelson Invitational

RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech sophomore pole vaulter Cole Courtois has been named the Male Field Athlete of the Week by Conference USA, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Courtois set a new school and meet record for the Bulldogs at last weekend's Texas A&M Ted Nelson Invitational with his winning pole vault of 17-1.75 (5.23m). With that mark, Courtois broke his own program record at Louisiana Tech, which he set during the 2018 indoor season.

His first place mark in the pole vault helped the Bulldogs secure a second-place finish out of 16 total teams in the first indoor meet of the 2019 season. Courtois' record-breaking pole vault currently ranks first in Conference USA and 15th nationally.

For Courtois, this marks the first Conference USA Athlete of the Week honor of his career.

The Bulldogs and Lady Techsters return to action next week on Jan. 18-19 when the teams travel to compete in the Vanderbilt Indoor Meet in Nashville, Tennessee.
