RUSTON, La. – Louisiana Tech sophomore pole vaulter
Cole Courtois has been named the Male Field Athlete of the Week by Conference USA, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Â
Courtois set a new school and meet record for the Bulldogs at last weekend's Texas A&M Ted Nelson Invitational with his winning pole vault of 17-1.75 (5.23m). With that mark, Courtois broke his own program record at Louisiana Tech, which he set during the 2018 indoor season.
Â
His first place mark in the pole vault helped the Bulldogs secure a second-place finish out of 16 total teams in the first indoor meet of the 2019 season. Courtois' record-breaking pole vault currently ranks first in Conference USA and 15th nationally.
Â
For Courtois, this marks the first Conference USA Athlete of the Week honor of his career.
Â
The Bulldogs and Lady Techsters return to action next week on Jan. 18-19 when the teams travel to compete in the Vanderbilt Indoor Meet in Nashville, Tennessee.
