LA Tech Travels to Houston to Face Rice

HOUSTON – The Louisiana Tech men's basketball team looks to rebound from a tough loss when they head to Houston to face Rice on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. inside Tudor Fieldhouse.
The matchup will be streamed live on ESPN3 with Matt Pederson and Nate Griffin calling the action. Fans can also listen to the Voice of the Bulldogs Dave Nitz call the game through the LA Tech Sports Network on KXKZ 107.5 FM (Ruston), KJVC 92.7 FM (Mansfield) and KRMD 100.7 FM/1340 AM (Shreveport) as well as on the Louisiana Tech X mobile app.
LA Tech (11-4, 1-1 C-USA) had its seven-game winning streak come to an end Thursday in a narrow 63-59 loss at North Texas. The Bulldogs managed to erase a 19-point deficit – its largest of the season – but fell in the final seconds in Denton.
Junior DaQuan Bracey posted a game-high 22 points versus the Mean Green. It marked the fourth time this season and the ninth time of his career that the guard has recorded 20+ points in a single game. He has led the Bulldogs in scoring six times this season, most of any player.
The only other LA Tech player in double figures was sophomore JaColby Pemberton who notched 11 points. He has now scored at least 11 points in seven straight games and leads the team in field goal shooting percentage at 56.8.
The Bulldogs scored their fewest points of the season, but still had a chance to come away with the road win thanks to their overall defense (aside from the stretch where UNT made 10 straight field goals).
The LA Tech defense has now held its last four opponents to less than 70 points as they have combined to average just 62.3 points per game while being limited to 38.7 percent shooting from the field.
After only totaling seven wins last season, Rice (6-9, 1-1 C-USA) is already one victory away from matching that total this season. The sixth win came on Thursday over Southern Miss by a final score of 73-65. The Owls were able to outscore the Golden Eagles, 40-23, in the second half.
Rice is in the midst of a four-game home stand and will have played seven of their last eight games at home where they are 5-4 compared to just 1-5 on the road.
The Owls get a lot of their offensive production from beyond the arc and at the foul line. They rank in the top 50 in the country in three-point field goal attempts (390) and free throw attempts (350).
Freshman Chris Mullins has emerged as Rice's biggest scoring threat. He leads the team with an average of 12.8 points per game, but is averaging 16.0 points over the last nine contests, scoring in double figures all nine times.
LA Tech and Rice will be meeting for the 22nd time with the Bulldogs owning a 15-6 edge in the series. The 'Dogs have won eight of the nine meetings since the two teams became league foes in Conference USA. The Owls had the upper-hand when the two were foes in the Western Athletic Conference (2001-05), winning five of eight.
