RUSTON – Louisiana Tech Athletics Facilities Assistant
Billy Logan was named the recipient of the 2019 Conference USA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Choice Award on Wednesday.
The SAAC Choice Award recognizes a coach, athletic department administrator, staff member or faculty member that is committed to fostering student-athlete development and welfare through a positive athletic and academic atmosphere.
Each C-USA institution selected their nominee, who were then voted on by the conference SAAC representatives following their 2019 summer meeting. Logan was this year's selected recipient among all 14 league schools.
"This is a tremendous honor for a tremendous person," said Tech Athletics Director Tommy McClelland. "Our student-athletes and our staff have a lot of respect for Billy because of his investment in them and in our athletics department. Not only is Billy tremendous with his job, but he is so invested in all of our teams. If there is a home sporting event, Billy is there working it and also supporting our student-athletes at the same time. He is an unsung hero within this department."
Logan is in his ninth year at Louisiana Tech. Working as part of the Internal Operations team, including Associate AD
Gerald Jordan, Logan's day-to-day activities include maintenance and upkeep of the athletic facilities as well as setting up and tearing down for athletic and non-athletic events.
Louisiana Tech hosts more than 100 home sporting events on campus each school year and dozens of non-athletic – more community type -- events. For the past nine years, one constant at the majority of those events has been the presence of Logan, something not lost on his LA Tech Athletics Family.
"Billy helps provide a suitable atmosphere for all student-athletes, whether that be for athletic or academic events," said LA Tech SAAC President Conner Killian, a junior track and field student-athlete. "Billy plays a large role in making Louisiana Tech a second home to all student/athletes and would do anything to make it better. That is why we chose Billy for the SAAC Choice Award."
A perfect example of Logan's selfless service to the athletics department and its student athletes came in April following the EF3 tornado that hit Ruston. Despite the fact his own home was destroyed by the tornado, Logan came to work and joined Tech employees, students and community members in the clean ups efforts around the athletic complexes.
"I can't think of a more deserving person to receive this honor than Billy," said Lady Techster head coach
Brooke Stoehr. "He epitomizes the selfless service we want our staff and students to exhibit. Billy has a servant's heart and genuinely wants to see our students succeed. I am thankful for all he does and am proud to see him be recognized for his dedication to our department. Billy is an integral part of Louisiana Tech, and I'm grateful to call him a friend."
