Techsters, Thundering Herd meet for first time in regular season since 2014
HUNTINGTON, W.V. – Louisiana Tech makes it first trip to Huntington in five years as the Lady Techsters face Marshall in a three game series starting with a doubleheader Friday at 12 p.m. CT.
The two teams are scheduled to conclude the series Saturday with an 11 a.m. single game. Due to weather in the area, game times could be adjusted.
Tech (35-10, 13-2 C-USA) sits alone in first place in the Conference USA standings and has won nine straight in league play after its most recent three-game sweep over UTEP this past weekend. Marshall (26-15, 9-6 C-USA) is battling for seeding in the upcoming Conference USA Tournament in Birmingham set for the second week in May.
The Thundering Herd lead Conference USA in home runs with 43, thanks to the one-two punch of Ally Harrell (.292, 11 HR, 32 RBI) and Mya Stevenson (.294, 9 HR, 27 RBI). As a team Marshall leads the league in hit by pitch as Sierra Huerta (18), Harrell (16) and Blakely Burch (15) rank as the top three in the conference.
In the circle, Marshall relies upon Abigail Tolbert (17-11, 2.92 ERA) and Kailee Williamson (8-3, 2.93 ERA). The duo has worked all but 7 innings in the circle this season.
Tech counters with an offensive lineup that ranks No. 1 in C-USA in batting average, runs, hits, RBI, total bases, on-base percentage and stolen bases. Kimmie Atienza (.390, 39 runs, 23-23 SB), Lindsay Edwards (.385, 29 runs, 33 RBI), Morgan Turkoly (.376, 57 runs, 24-26 SB), Jazlyn Crowder (.366, 42 runs, 7 HR, 44 RBI) and Bayli Simon (.328, 23 runs, 13 doubles) leads Tech at the plate.
Marshall leads the all-time series 3-2, although Tech has won the last two meetings that both came in Conference USA Tournament action.
