Turkoly Named Senior CLASS Award 1st Team A-A

Techster senior joins some of the elite names in the college game on the prestigious team

RUSTON, La. – Graduated Louisiana Tech softball player Morgan Turkoly has been named as a Senior CLASS Award first team all-American announced the award committee Wednesday.

Katie Reed of Kentucky was named the 2019 Senior Class Award recipient.

Turkoly, who leaves as one of the most decorated players in the history of the program, was named one of 10 national finalists for the award in March. She is among the elite of the elite in college softball, joining Reed, Florida's Kelly Barnhill and Amanda Lorenz, and Oklahoma's Sydney Romero as the first team all-Americans.

The Senior CLASS Awards' second team all-Americans include Washington's Taran Alvelo, Michigan's Faith Canfield, Florida State's Meghan King, Tennessee's Aubrey Leach and Florida Gulf Coast's Riley Randolph.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Turkoly became the first Tech softball player to ever be named a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award. The Sanger, Texas, native was a four-time all-conference selection (3-time first team honoree), a 4-time all-region selection, a 2-time C-USA All-Tournament selection, a 3-time C-USA Softball All-Academic selection and the 2018 C-USA Player of the Year.

She helped guide the program to 147 wins in four years, including a pair of Conference USA Tournament titles (2017, 2019), the program's first C-USA regular season title (2019) and two NCAA Regionals (2017, 2019).

Turkoly leaves as the program's career leader in runs scored, walks and on-base percentage and ranks in the Top 10 in program history in batting average, hits, doubles, home runs, total bases, RBI, stolen bases and slugging percentage.

She graduated with a 3.72 grade point average in accounting in March.
