RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech baseball team will wrap up its 2019 slate vs. in-state foes this coming Tuesday, heading to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for a 6:30 p.m. matchup with the No. 15 LSU Tigers from Alex Box Stadium.
Â
The game will be streamed live on SEC Network + through WatchESPN and broadcast on KNBB 97.7 FM with
Dave Nitz on the call.
Â
LA Tech (29-19, 13-10 C-USA) enters the midweek showdown after dropping two of three to Conference USA opponent Old Dominion on the road last weekend. The Bulldogs currently sit in fourth place in the C-USA standings with just two conference weekends remaining this season.
Â
Meanwhile, LSU (30-18, 14-10 SEC) comes into Tuesday after dropping two of three to SEC foe Ole Miss from Baton Rouge. The Tigers have won six of their last nine games, however, and own a 24-6 record at home this season.
Â
The Bulldogs are slated throw left-hander
Logan Robbins (3-3, 5.30 ERA, 54.1 IP, 45 K, 25 BB), making his second consecutive midweek start.
Â
Robbins was sharp last Tuesday, in Tech's narrow 1-0 road loss to Northwestern State, in which the southpaw went 6.0 innings, allowing just one unearned run, while scattering four hits and struck out five. Robbins did not walk a batter, needing only 86 pitches to make it through six full innings.
Â
LSU will send freshman RHP Chase Costello (0-0, 10.80 ERA, 13.1 IP, 9 K, 11 BB) to the bump, making his first start of the year.
Â
This will mark the 61
st meeting between the two programs, in a series that began back in 1902. Last season, LSU eked out a 2-0 win over Tech in Baton Rouge, as Bulldog left-hander
David Leal tossed a complete game. LSU has won the last 12 meetings between the two clubs, dating back to 1987, where Tech took a 5-4 victory in Ruston.
Â
Tech third baseman
Tanner Huddleston continues to be one of the hottest hitters on the team, dating back to the start of conference play. Following Tech's league-opening loss to Southern Miss, Huddleston's batting average had dipped down to its lowest point of the season at .211. However, in the 29 games since that point, Huddleston is hitting .358 with team highs in both RBI (28), extra-base hits (15) and slugging (.606).
Â
Since 2016, the Bulldogs have played 35 games against ranked opponents. Tech has won 20 of those contests (20-15), including four triumphs over ranked SEC foes (Three vs. Arkansas, One vs. Texas A&M). Under head coach
Lane Burroughs, the 'Dogs are 9-8 vs. ranked competition.
Â
Following Tuesday's midweek, the Bulldogs will return "home" for senior weekend, hosting WKU in a three game set from Warhawk Field at ULM. Admission to all three contests will be free and donations will be accepted for the disaster recovery efforts for Tech and the surrounding Ruston community.
Â
The will take time to honor its 12 seniors at a 3:30 pregame ceremony prior to Saturday's 4:00 PM first pitch from Warhawk Field.
