TULSA, Okla. – Playing its fourth dual match in three days, the Louisiana Tech tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Oral Roberts on Sunday morning at the Case Tennis Center.
 
LA Tech (1-3) came out of the gates strong, grabbing the doubles point and netting a couple of singles matches in the early going.  However, Oral Roberts (2-3) managed to come back by taking victories on four singles courts.
 
"We were in another tough battle today," said head coach Amanda Stone.  "Unfortunately after three hard days of matches, we didn't quite have enough to get the win. 
 
"Overall, this opening weekend had a lot of bright spots.  Our effort was outstanding and we have a lot of fighters.  Despite some of the matches not going our way, this was our best showing since we've been attending this event.  I'm proud of the team and excited for the progress."
 
For a second straight match, it was courts two and three providing the doubles point for the Lady Techsters.  Ana Jover and Claudia Oravcova teamed up to defeat Reagan Miley and Aliksandra Lebedeva by a score of 6-3 at No. 2.
 
Then it was the duo of Alexia Romero and Ilana Tetruashvili coming out on top at No. 3 with a win of 6-4 over Andrea Vasiljevic and Rai Sengupta.
 
Both Jover and Romero also picked up their second victories of the weekend in singles.  Jover lost only three games against Lebedeva on court two, winning 6-0, 6-3.  As for Romero, she moved up one spot in the lineup to No. 4 and got past Miley, 6-4, 6-4.
 
The Golden Eagles, who were picked to finish second in the Summit preseason poll, recorded straight-set wins on courts one, three, five and six to edge the Lady Techsters.
 
LA Tech will return to Ruston to host two matches next weekend at the Ruston Sports Complex.  The Lady Techsters will take on Nicholls State on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m. and then McNeese State on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 10:30 a.m.
