RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech tennis team gets its home slate underway this weekend as they play host to Nicholls State and McNeese State at the Ruston Sports Complex.
Â
LA Tech (1-3) will play nine home matches this season at its temporary home off Farmerville Street. The first one takes place on Saturday at 11 a.m. against the Colonels followed by a meeting on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. versus the Cowgirls.
Â
The Lady Techsters are coming off a grueling four-match stretch that spanned three days in Tulsa, Oklahoma. They picked up their first spring win against Montana State and fell to Tulsa, Wyoming and Oral Roberts.
Â
Alexia Romero got her collegiate career off to a strong start. The freshman went a combined 4-2 in singles and doubles. Her two singles wins came at the No. 4 and No. 5 spot and she teamed up with
Ilana Tetruashvili to claim two doubles victories on court three.
Â
Sophomore
Ana Jover also notched two dual wins each in singles and doubles, playing at the No. 2 position in both.
Â
Nicholls State (0-0) will be playing its first match of the spring season while McNeese State (0-2) has dropped two matches so far to Georgia State and Baylor.
Â
The Lady Techsters were victorious over the Colonels last season in the spring as well as this past fall in Florida at the Tops'l Invitational. The Cowgirls came out on top in the last meeting in 2018.
