Kaitlyn Eder was named the 2020 Track Kat Klash MVP after leading the No. 9 Louisiana Tech bowling team to a second place finish at the Sam Houston State-hosted tournament on Saturday.
"We started off slow on Friday and just didn't bowl up to our ability," head coach
Matt Nantais said. "We learned a lot about ourselves this weekend. This team never gives up. We were down going into the last match for second place, and they stepped up big to shoot their second highest game in the school history. Now, we will just wait to see what happens when we come back for the second half of the season."
Eder finished first individually with a pin average of 228.00. Two other Lady Techsters also finished in the top-10 as sophomore
Allie Leiendecker placed eighth with a pin average of 197.00 and senior
Ashley Channell finished 10th with a pin average of 193.20.
LA Tech went 3-1 in its traditional matches on Saturday after opening the day with a 920-900 win over Texas Southern and a 1,000-826 win over No. 5 Sam Houston State. The Lady Techsters had a bye in the third round of the day where they recorded 1,013 total pins. Louisiana Tech then lost, 1,076-952, to No. 2 Vanderbilt.
Louisiana Tech went into the final match of the day four pins behind Sam Houston State for second. The Lady Techsters stepped up to defeat Prairie View A&M, 1,096-957, to secure the second place finish.
The Lady Techsters split their Baker matches, 2-2, on Friday. LA Tech opened the tournament with a 976-854 win over Prairie View A&M before losing, 1,164-1,012, to Vanderbilt. Louisiana Tech had a bye in the third round of the tournament where the Lady Techsters recorded 931 total pins. LA Tech lost, 1,005-990, to Sam Houston State in the fourth round. The Lady Techsters then ended the day with a 977-898 victory over Texas Southern.
Vanderbilt won the Track Kat Klash with 10,574 total pins followed by LA Tech at second place with 9,867. Sam Houston State finished third with 9,762 total pins, Prairie View A&M was fourth with 8,819 and Texas Southern finished fifth with 8,451.
Louisiana Tech will now have a two-month hiatus before returning to the lanes at the Prairie View A&M Invitational in Dallas, Texas, from Friday, Jan. 29, to Sunday, Jan. 31.
