Stone Becomes All-Time Winningest Head Coach in Shutout Victory

LA Tech improves to 9-7 on the spring season

RUSTON – It was a special Friday afternoon for the Louisiana Tech tennis team as head coach Amanda Stone became the program's all-time winningest head coach with the 4-0 shutout win over Southern at the Ruston Sports Complex.

Stone guided LA Tech (9-7) to their ninth victory of the spring season, sweeping all three courts for the doubles point and then notching straight-set victories on courts two, three and four to down Southern (0-8).

"I'm really happy with the win today," said Stone.  "Southern was a great match to push us mentally and make us play sharp.  Overall, we executed well and I was glad to see some of the focus from this practice week reflected on the courts."

After dropping the doubles point in multiple matches here recently, the lineups were changed up at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots.

Andrea Perez-Lopez and Alexia Romero teamed up for the very first time on court one and came away with a 6-2 victory.  Another new lineup was Nadja Manjon and Rikona Murakami coming together to win 6-4 on court three.

Of course, the duo of Ana Jover and Claudia Oravcova stuck together and produced another dominating performance on court two, winning 6-1 for their ninth straight victory. It ties for the second longest streak by a doubles tandem in the last 25 years.

The Lady Techsters were equally as sharp in singles where the lineup was shifted again with Ilana Tetruashvili being out with a minor injury.

Perez-Lopez moved up to the No.4 position and gave LA Tech its second point of the match with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win over Mandi Munyulwa.

Freshman Alexia Romero followed with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph against Stephanie Mbaya for her 10th singles win of the season, but the first one coming at the No. 3 spot.

The clincher came from Jover who battled Agye Mintah and registered a 6-4, 6-1 win at her usual No. 2 position, marking her fifth straight win and team-leading 12th overall.

Manjon, Oravcova and Murakami were all up a set when the match was called.

Next up on the schedule for the Lady Techsters is a trip to California where they will play three matches, starting on March 5 at Cal State Northridge.
