Ana Jover provided the lone point at No. 2 singles

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The sets were very competitive across all the courts, but the Louisiana Tech tennis team fell 4-1 to Cal State Northridge to open up its trio of matches in California on Thursday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Courts.

LA Tech (9-8) managed to close out one match in singles, but CSUN (6-2) opened the scoring up with the doubles point and pulled out numerous set wins of 7-5 and 7-6 to add three more points on courts one, five and six.

Ilana Tetruashvili and Alexia Romero were back together again in doubles and on the verge of a victory on court three, but the Matadors sealed the point with wins of 6-4 and 6-2 on courts one and two, respectively.

CSUN jumped out to 2-0 advantage with a straight-set win at the No. 5 position in singles, but LA Tech split the deficit in half when Ana Jover bested Jolene Coetzee by a score of 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot.

Jover, along with teammate Claudia Oravcova, had their nine-match doubles winning streak come to an end, but the sophomore extended her singles winning streak to six.

The set scores were tight across all the remaining courts, but almost all of them went the way of the home Matadors, including 6-4, 7-5 point at No. 1 and a 7-6, 6-3 point at No. 6.

Tetruashvili was about to begin the third set against Jacquie Tan on court three and Alexia Romero was in a tight battle with Ana Isabel Toboso on court four when the match was called.

The Lady Techsters will turn around tomorrow and play Cal Poly with first serve set for 3 p.m. CT.
