LA Tech Heads to California for Three Matches

Will face Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly and UC Irvine

RUSTON – After playing the last four matches at home, the Louisiana Tech tennis team will head out west this week to play in the state of California against three Big West opponents.

The first matchup will come on Thursday at Cal State Northridge at 4 p.m.  Then on Friday, the team will play at Cal Poly at 3 p.m. and conclude the trip on Sunday at 11 a.m. at UC Irvine.  This will mark the program's first trip to the Golden State since 2013 when they were a member of the Western Athletic Conference.

LA Tech (9-7) played only one match this past week, shutting out Southern by a score of 4-0 at the Ruston Sports Complex.  The Lady Techsters grabbed the doubles point and straight-set wins in singles courts two, three and four.

Ana Jover and Alexia Romero provided two of the singles wins, continuing their strong play.  Jover has won five straight and has a team-best 12-4 record while Romero has won four straight with a 10-2 mark.

The two have combined for 22 of the team's 46 dual singles wins this spring.

Jover and Claudia Oravcova continue to terrorize opponents in doubles, having won nine straight which is the longest winning streak for a tandem since 2013.  They are currently 12-4.

CSUN (5-2) has won back-to-back games against UC Davis and Sacramento State.  The Matadors, led by Ekatarina Repina at the top spot in singles, are 3-1 at home this season.

Cal Poly (8-2) opened the spring season with six straight victories, but have dropped two of its last four matches.  The Mustangs recently defeated Grand Canyon, 6-1, with Melissa LaMette improving to a perfect 7-0 in singles.

UC Irvine (5-5) won three straight before falling, 5-2, to conference foe UC Davis this past Sunday.  Twelve different players have seen action this spring with Arianna Tilbury posting a 3-0 record, two of those coming from the top spot in singles.
