RUSTON – Louisiana Tech head coach
Amanda Stone announced on Thursday the 2021 spring schedule for the Lady Techster tennis team, a slate which gets underway on Jan. 16 and features a total of 23 dual matches.
LA Tech will get the season underway in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the two-day Hurricane Invite, taking on host Tulsa as well as Wyoming and Central Arkansas. This will mark the fourth straight year opening up the spring at the Case Tennis Center.
The Lady Techsters will then have their home opener against Stephen F. Austin on Jan. 31 at the LA Tech Tennis Complex. The team is scheduled to play eight home matches during the season.
"We are looking forward to the spring and hopeful that we will be able to compete the full season this year," said Stone who is in the midst of her fifth season as head coach. "With the 2020 season cut short and an abbreviated fall, the team is eager to get back on the courts. We've built a strong schedule with teams in our region as well as several strong C-USA matches."
The month of February will consists of eight matches, seven of those coming against in-state opponents – Grambling State (doubleheader), Nicholls State, Southern, McNeese State, New Orleans and ULM.
On March 5-6, LA Tech will face two of its five conference opponents in WKU and Middle Tennessee in Mufreesboro, Tennessee. The team will head to the state of Kentucky after that to battle Murray State on March 8.
After a home matchup with Missouri State on March 13, the Lady Techsters will take on three straight league foes in UAB, Southern Miss and North Texas.
After a road matchup against Oral Roberts on March 28, LA Tech will close out the regular season with home matches against UT Tyler, Northwestern State and Grambling State.
"Whatever this 2021 season throws at us, I want our players mentally prepared to handle it and compete with every opportunity we are given," said Stone. "I'm proud of the progress our program is making and I hope we have the opportunity to showcase that this spring."
The 2021 C-USA Women's Tennis Tournament will be hosted by North Texas in Denton, Texas on April 22-25.
