ABOUT LOUISIANA TECH (6-2)
LA Tech enters Saturday having won six of its last seven games, including a thrilling 78-75 victory a week ago at Santa Clara. The Bulldogs went a perfect 13-of-13 from the foul line, including four big makes in the final 10 seconds, to help secure the win.
Kenneth Lofton, Jr. took home his second straight Conference USA Player of the Week award, in large part due to his performance against the Broncos where he recorded 31 points and 14 rebounds, his second 30-point, 10-rebound performance of the season.
He is currently one of only three players in the country averaging at least 19 points and 11 rebounds per game (leads the team at 19.4 points and 11.1 boards per contest).
The Bulldogs rank 42nd in the country in scoring offense at 81.2 points per game, having put up 78+ points in each of their last six games which is something that has only been done three times in the last 40 years. They have also scored 40+ points in 10 of their last 12 halves.
LA Tech will play its next six games all in the state of Louisiana (five in Ruston and one in Bossier City against LSU).
ABOUT UL-LAFAYETTE (5-3)
After suffering three straight losses, UL-Lafayette has bounced back to win its last two games, both coming in Lafayette, against New Orleans and McNeese State by scores of 80-67 and 83-68, respectively.
Three Ragin' Cajuns are averaging double-digit points including Jordan Brown (12.3), Kobe Julien (10.1) and Theo Akwuba (10.0). Brown and Akwuba were both named to the Sun Belt Conference preseason team. Akwuba is the reigning SBC Defensive Player of the Year.
ULL, picked to finish second in the SBC preseason poll, is one of the top teams in the country when it comes to rebounds and blocks. They rank first in the Sun Belt and in the top 35 in the nation in rebounds per game (42.86) and blocks per game (5.3).
THE SERIES
LA Tech and ULL are meeting for the 167th time on record, the most meetings of any opponent for the Bulldogs who lead the series, 90-76. LA Tech has played ULL at least once in 86 seasons (out of 94).
This will be the ninth straight year facing each other as the two teams have alternated home games every year since 2013. The last six meetings have been split, 3-3.
