RUSTON – The Louisiana Tech Soccer team gathered together Sunday in the club level of the Davison Athletics Complex to recap the 2021 season and hand out the annual team awards.
“It was a great way to celebrate our seniors and to recognize all of the accomplishments our team had on and off the field this past season,” said head coach Steve Voltz. “We have an amazing group and are already looking forward to 2022.”
Team MVP went to Libe Banuelos who as a true freshman, made 13 appearances (12 starts) in net while totaling 61 saves and a 1.36 goals against average. The goalkeeper registered three wins and three ties and was part of three shutouts.
Offensive MVP was awarded to midfielder Anna Loftus. She tied for the team-lead in points with nine on four goals and one assist while amassing a team-best 15 shots on goal. Three of her four goals were game-winners, coming against Louisiana College, Sam Houston and FIU.
Defensive MVP honors went to Josie Studer. The junior was selected to the 2021 All-Conference USA Second Team after playing a team-high 1,399 minutes at center back (played 764 of the 770 minutes during league action). She went the distance in 11 matches while also tying for the team-lead in points with nine (four goals and one assist).
Most Improved honors went to Kalli Matlock. After playing just 290 minutes (six matches) as a true freshman, the defender/midfielder saw action in 16 matches with seven starts while playing 831 minutes. She recorded five points on the season with two goals and one assist.
Christina Hjelvik received the Four Pillars Award, an award that goes to the player that best represents the four pillars of the program – passion, service, respect and fearlessness.
