LA Tech Golf Set at Compete in LaTour Intercollegiate

RUSTON, La. – The Louisiana Tech men's golf team returns to action after a nearly four-month hiatus as the Bulldogs are set to compete at the Nicholls-hosted LaTour Intercollegiate from Saturday to Monday in Mathews, La.
"We really appreciate Nicholls State letting us in on such a short notice," senior Sam Murphy said. "I'm ready to get back to competing with the guys tomorrow."
The tournament's field will feature 13 programs, including Central Arkansas, Eastern Kentucky, Houston Baptist, Jacksonville State, Missouri State, New Orleans, Nicholls, Samford, Southeastern Louisiana, Stephen F. Austin, Incarnate Wood and UT-Rio Grande Valley.
The 54-hole tournament will run from Saturday to Monday with tee times beginning at noon (CT) on Saturday, 10 a.m. on Sunday and 8 a.m. on Monday. The teams will be competing at the LaTour Golf Club (Par 72 – 7,177 yards).
Fans can follow up-to-date scoring through live results at Golfstat.com and tee times are subject to change depending on weather and temperature.
The Bulldog lineup for the weekend will feature seniors Mac Murphy (72.50 avg.) and S. Murphy (72.00 avg.), junior James Swash (74.13 avg.), sophomore Lake Juban (73.00 avg.) and freshman Will Patrick (75.67 avg.).
LA Tech was originally scheduled to compete at the All-American Intercollegiate this weekend, but the tournament was postponed due to severe winter weather affecting most of the south. The University of Houston will work with teams and the Golf Club of Houston to reschedule the tournament in March.
Tech competed in three tournaments in the fall, placing fourth at the LA Tech-hosted Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, tying for sixth at the Middle Tennessee-hosted Intercollegiate at the Grove and finishing 10th at the Little Rock-hosted Little Rock Invitational.
The Bulldogs are led by S. Murphy with an even-par stroke average of 72.00. The senior registered the lowest round for a Bulldog this season with a -7 at the Little Rock Invitational in October. Swash had the best individual finish for Tech in the fall after tying for 11th with a -1 at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate in September.
