Posthauer’s Goal Holds Up in 1-0 Win

LA Tech improved to 3-2 on the season

DENTON, Texas – A strong defensive outing and a goal by Amber Posthauer late in the first period allowed Louisiana Tech to pull out a 1-0 shutout victory on the road against Texas Woman's on Sunday afternoon at the Pioneer Soccer Field.

It marked the first win of the spring season for LA Tech (3-2).  It was also another milestone for 14-year head coach Kevin Sherry who notched career win No. 150 at the helm of the Lady Techsters.

"TWU was a tough, physical team that played direct running soccer and it was exactly what we needed after a tough loss this past Wednesday," said Sherry.  "I'm proud of the way the team stood up and met that physical challenge.  We got a great goal from Amber and would have liked to of added one or two more, but we now have a good platform to build on.

"I feel so humble in getting 150 wins.  I could not have achieved that number without the efforts of so many great players who have played for me and numerous assistants who have given so much."

Both LA Tech and TWU (0-1) had shot attempts that came in the first two minutes, but both sailed right.  Another shot would not be taken in the match until the 15th minute when Elizabeth Doll took a free kick from 25 yards away after being fouled, but her liner went high over the crossbar.

Still not able to get a shot on target, the match was nearing halftime when in the 43rd minute Posthauer gained possession in LA Tech's attacking third and angled her dribble toward the corner of the 18.

The senior avoided getting dispossessed by a Pioneer defender, found space and sent a left-footed strike at the top of the box that clipped the bottom of the crossbar and crossed the goal line for the score.

It marked her second goal of the 2020-21 season and the 14th of her career.

The Lady Techsters cranked up the offensive attack in the second period, amassing nine shots with four of those coming on goal.  Tomoyo Kuroyanagi, who had a team-high four shots, made a brilliant turn and fired a shot that was saved by the diving keeper in the 54th minute.

In the final 10 minutes, LA Tech had a flurry of attempts, two of which were generated by Maci Geltmeier who turned on the jets to get to the end line and sent crosses into the box.  However, the shots were either blocked or saved by the Pioneers.

Posthauer's goal ended up being enough though, marking her third career game-winning goal and first since 2018.  TWU only managed four shot attempts the entire match with zero coming on goal.  As a result, Katie Cook picked up her second career victory in net.

LA Tech will have one day off before continuing its seven-game road stretch on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at Belhaven in Jackson, Mississippi.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
