RUSTON – Louisiana Tech got contributions all throughout the lineup on Sunday, sweeping Grambling State by scores of 7-0 and 4-0 in the home doubleheader at the LA Tech Tennis Complex.
Â
All eight players had a hand in registering points for LA Tech (4-2) who has now won four straight dual matches.Â
Â
"I'm really happy with the results today," said head coach
Amanda Stone. "We came out and did what we needed to do. We talked after the match last week about the importance of taking control of the matches and setting the tone. We did a great job executing that with our doubles.
Â
"Grambling is a team who can really frustrate you if you don't step up and take control of the points. I was very happy to see all of our players dictating the shots and playing aggressive."
Â
In match one, the Lady Techsters surrendered just two total games in doubles, quickly going up 1-0 in the match. The doubles teams remained the same, but there was a change in courts as
Anastasiia Salenko and
Claudia Oravcova moved up to court two (6-0 win) and
Alexia Romero and
Lara Unkovich switched to court three and got a 6-1 victory.
Â
Ilana Tetruashvili won all 12 games (6-0, 6-0) over Ana Ochoa at the No. 3 position to give LA Tech a 2-0 advantage. Romero followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Mikaila Coleman and Oravcova notched her first singles victory of the spring with a 6-2, 6-0 clinching point versus Natalie Malone.
Â
Leonie Schuknecht and Salenko added dominating straight-set points at the top of the lineup on courts one and two, respectively. GSU's (0-3) lone set win came at the No. 6 spot where Danna Galeano forced a superbreaker against
Madalena Amil.Â
Â
The freshman Amil ended up prevailing, winning 10-8, for her first dual victory as a Lady Techster.
Â
LA Tech carried its momentum into match two, winning 6-0 on court one (Schuknecht/Tetruashvili) and 6-2 on court three (Oravcova/
Madison Cefalu) to jump on the Lady Tigers.Â
Â
Then in singles, Amil put forth a stellar effort, downing Malone by a score of 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 position. Romero followed with a similar performance, overpowering Combest at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Lastly, Salenko sealed the win for the Lady Techsters with a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at her customary No. 2 spot.
Â
"Hopefully this will be a huge confidence boost for us," said Stone. "We are on a winning streak and I think confidence is the key to this team's success this year."
Â
LA Tech will start a stretch of three road matches on Friday, Feb. 12 at Nicholls State. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
