TUCSON, Ariz. – Collegiate Baseball Newspaper named Louisiana Tech pitcher
Jarret Whorff one of its nine National Players of the Week on Monday morning.
Whorff earns the national honor after tossing a complete-game shutout against No. 1 Arkansas on Sunday. The Winnsboro, Texas native struck out 10 Razorbacks while allowing just one walk to help LA Tech earn its first win over a top-ranked team in program history.
Whorff faced the minimum in five of his nine innings on the mound, holding Arkansas hitless over the final seven frames of the ballgame. The Bulldogs' Sunday starter has now thrown two complete-game shutouts in just his second year with the LA Tech program. The right-hander holds a 6-1 record and a 2.59 ERA in eight career starts in a Diamond Dog uniform.
The National Player of the Week also snapped a 94-game streak on Sunday, holding the top-ranked Hogs to just two hits for the first time since Oregon State limited Arkansas to two hits in the College World Series final on June 28, 2018.
